Caterpillar Donations Generator to FOTCOH

Access to reliable power will aid medical volunteers’ efforts

Peoria, Ill. – Imagine not having access to clean water, plentiful food or shelter. Many Haitians face these challenges every day. In an effort to ensure rural Haitians have access to a medical clinic with reliable power, Caterpillar Inc., along with Haytrac, the local Cat dealer in Haiti, are pleased to announce their donation of an Olympian GEP40SP2 generator to the Friends of the Children of Haiti (FOTCOH).

“Nearly seven years ago, Haiti faced extreme clean-up efforts following Hurricane Gustav and several tropical storms. We responded to FOTCOH’s call by delivering a generator to power what was then a severely damaged clinic,” said Rod Shurman, Oil & Gas product manager within Caterpillar’s Large Power Systems Division. “Today, we’re pleased to provide another generator to ensure the clinic and its volunteers continue to have a quality solution for reliable power, so they can focus on the more important matter at hand – treating local residents in need of medical support.”
The generator, which has a standby power rating of 40 kW, is comprised of a Perkins 1103C-33TG2 diesel engine, and will be used by FOTCOH as the organization’s team of volunteers operates its six annual medical missions, seeing upwards of 15,000 Haitians per year.

“While we are not in the same situation as we were in 2008, we have grown as far as the number of people we support for medical services, and in turn, now have an increased power requirement,” said XXXX, with the FOTCOH. “For instance, within a two week window, our volunteers see roughly 2,500 Haitians. We’ve been appreciative of Caterpillar’s support of FOTCOH over the years and know that this latest donation will be put to valuable use.”
