Thirty years ago, Dick and Barb Hammond founded what is now called Friends of the Children of Haiti (FOTCOH). Since that time, FOTCOH has provided life-saving support to thousands of Haitian patients every year at our clinic in Cyvadier, Haiti. Six times a year, volunteer teams from the U.S. travel to Haiti to provide medical, dental, and surgical support for the most impoverished people in Haiti, who otherwise would have no access to medical care of any kind.
One of these volunteers, Shelley Briggs Callahan has written the story of how Dick and Barb have changed the lives of thousands of people, not only in Haiti but at home. It is about this couple’s dedication to helping in a country where the need is great, and change is slow.
Author Shelley Briggs Callahan has traveled extensively across the U. S. and around the world reporting on the burden of poverty and working to support communities in need. She started her career in non-profit in 2006 when she cofounded Books on Wheels, which provides free books to children living in low-income neighborhoods.
We hope you can join us and help us spread awareness about FOTCOH and the journey of their work in Haiti.
